About Max!

As my favorite comedian and personal muse, Tom Papa says, “being a person is hard.” No one is given a handbook on how to be a person but I believe that watching people try, fail, and sometimes even succeed in the struggles of being a person is the best way to start to write that handbook for ourselves. That is what I want my work to do. I want to highlight the beauty in the mundane parts of the human experience in hopes that maybe we can all be a little better for it.

I have always loved media about love specifically. While that started with romantic comedies, it grew into a passion for stories about complicated, difficult, and messy love. There is so much more to the love story than boy meets girl and they live happily ever after. I want to hear those conversations that happen behind closed doors, the fights that end in a life-altering breakthrough, and the conversations deemed ‘not interesting enough’ to be dramatized.

These guideposts have led to a passion for pieces that break the typical theatrical form. I draw inspiration from the works of Duncan MacMillan and Annie Baker in their ability to bring the mundane to life but also have a passion for developing new plays and musicals where my goal is to help the playwright find out what their play wants to be.

Whether it be as a director, an actor, a stage manager, a front of house member, or an administrator, my passion for storytelling, and changing people’s lives for the better drives me to get up every day and make an impact in the best way I know how: through truth, honesty, kindness all powered by many many cups of coffee.

When I am not working in theater, I am probably playing Magic: The Gathering, or listening to an NBA draft podcast while playing Magic: The Gathering, or baking a cake for my family while playing Magic: The Gathering. If I am feeling really crazy I may enjoy a cup of coffee at a new coffee shop, probably while playing, you guessed it, Magic: The Gathering.
